President of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Galust Sahakyan, on Wednesday received a delegation led by deputy chairman Chen Changzhi of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPCSC) of China.
First, Sahakyan extended his condolences in connection with the recent sinking of a Chinese cruise ship, and which claimed many human lives, reported the NA press service.
The Armenian parliament speaker noted that China is an important partner for Armenia, and he underscored Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s state visit he had paid to this country. Galust Sahakyan also noted that Armenia supports in all matters that are important for China.
The Armenian NA leader also reflected on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and stated that this matter is of vital importance for Armenia. He thanked China for its balanced position on this matter and assistance in peaceful solution of the issue.
Sahakyan also spoke about the Armenian Genocide Centennial commemorations. He added that the Armenian National Assembly has launched the initiative of “Parliaments against Genocide” interparliamentary platform of international cooperation.
Chen Changzhi likewise underscored active contacts between the parliaments of both countries. He expressed willingness to assist in further development of collaboration and implementation of a variety of programs between the two states. Chen also highlighted the development of Armenia-China trade and intensification of cultural and educational cooperation. The NPCSC deputy chairman expressed the hope that the Karabakh conflict would be resolved pacifically and through talks.
In addition, Chen Changzhi invited Galust Sahakyan to China on an official visit.
The interlocutors also discussed several other matters of bilateral interest.
