YEREVAN. – Haykakan Zhamanak daily has information that the Government of Armenia is discussing a project of building an approximately 13-kilometers-long electric train line that will link downtown capital city Yerevan to Zvartnots International Airport, reported the daily.
“The entire construction cost is estimated at around 80 million [US] dollars. (…) Such a construction will bring liveliness to the [country’s] economy.
“However, there are government opponents of this project. They claim that that the operation of this electric train is uneconomical. First, it has no demand. And besides, in the future, more money will be spent on its [maintenance] service than the profits to be received from its operation.
“Our sources note that the likelihood of approval and implementation of this project is very small,” wrote Haykakan Zhamanak.
