The annual  International Seminar on Security and Defence was convened this time in Toledo, Spain.   

The main topic of discussion was jihadism as a threat to the modern world.

During the Q & A session at the event, Turkey’s Ambassador to Spain, Ömer Önhon, asked Fernando Reinares, a specialist in terrorism, why the Western society pays more attention to the killings of Christians than of the Muslims. And as an “example,” he noted the Spanish press coverage of the Armenian Genocide Centennial.

Reinares, on the other hand, described the Turkish diplomat’s question as “demagogy” and characterized his remarks as a “political statement.”

A King Juan Carlos University professor added that Turkey is not in a position to manifest a critical stance on this matter. 

As a result, the Turkish ambassador was forced to remain silent. Until then, however, he was attempting to convince those in attendance to the aforesaid seminar that Turkey has nothing to do with the supplying of weapons to the Islamic State.
