Armenia’s Ambassador to Georgia, Yuri Vardanyan, told about the aforesaid to Armenia News-NEWS.am.
Vardanyan noted that he has no information yet as to since when these sisters were living in Georgia, and all that he knows so far is that they were elderly. He added that there are no Armenians among the injured, and they cannot say anything yet with respect to the missing.
“A sad thing occurred, and we [i.e. Armenia] expressed our readiness to help,” the ambassador said.
He also noted that numerous agencies, organizations and persons from Armenia have contacted the Armenian embassy in Tbilisi, and expressed their willingness to help.
“The situation is alarming in one part of the city; [but] they felt nothing in the other part,” Yuri Vardanyan said. “I walked around the city yesterday [i.e. Sunday]; there were a lot of people.”
The devastating flood in Georgia’s capital city had occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday, as unprecedented heavy rains caused the River Vere to burst its banks.
