YEREVAN. – Yerevan, as a sister city of Tbilisi, has offered its assistance to the Georgian capital city by proposing to bring the animals of Tbilisi Zoo to the capital city of Armenia.

Mayor Taron Margaryan, during Monday’s consultation at Yerevan Municipality, reflected on the flood that ravaged Tbilisi and resultant destruction of the zoo of Yerevan’s sister city.

The mayor informed that, upon his instruction, several Yerevan Zoo professionals are now in Tbilisi to provide any necessary assistance.

Margaryan also noted that their colleagues in Tbilisi were also informed about the Armenian capital city’s willingness to provide shelter at Yerevan Zoo for animals of the Tbilisi Zoo that have become “homeless.”

The devastating flood in Georgia’s capital city occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday, as heavy rains caused the River Vere to burst its banks.
