The Regional Council of Lombardy (Italian region in the centre of Milan) commemorated the Armenian Genocide, the Milanese newspaper IL Giorno reports.  

The event was attended by President of Lombardy Roberto Maroni, Regional Council President Raffaele Cattaneo, Council MPs, Archimandrite Tovma Khachatryan (leader of the Diocese of Armenian Apostolic Church in Italy), as well as Honorary Consul of Armenia in Italy Pietro Kuciukian.  

“This initiative is not against anyone, but for the search of agreement for the sake of better future,” Cattaneo said.

“This year marked the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, which has been denied and forgotten for so many years. People of Lombardy are at one with the Armenians, who had to suffer lots of injustices on their way. Milan became home to the active and large Armenian community. Not only the main city, but also the whole region of Lombardy is happy to receive Armenians and honor the contribution of that community to the development of the region,” President Maroni said.
