YEREVAN. – President Serzh Sargsyan, who is also Chairman of the Chess Federation of Armenia (CFA), on Wednesday visited the Tigran Petrosian Chess House in capital city Yerevan.
Sargsyan participated in the events devoted to the 86th birth anniversary of the ninth World Chess Champion, the late Tigran Petrosian.
The President paid tribute to the famous Armenian chess grandmaster, and placed flowers under Petrosian’s bust located outside the chess house.
Serzh Sargsyan also watched the rapid chess tournaments of veterans and young players.
The President, in his remarks, pointed to Tigran Petrosian’s great contribution in the popularity of chess in Armenia, and in the international accomplishments by Armenian chess players.
Sargsyan also attended the presentation of a book dedicated to Petrosian and titled, This is How we Became a Superpower.
After the anniversary events, the President of Armenia and Chairman of the CFA met with senior staff of the federation.
