The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group US Co-Chair, Ambassador James Warlick, commented, at the request of Armenian News-NEWS.am, on the most recent European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) decision with respect to two prototype lawsuits: Chiragov v. Armenia, and Sargsyan v. Azerbaijan.

To the query on whether the ECHR judgment contains formulations that are perilous for the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process as well as commenting on Azerbaijan’s statements that this decision is the “first judicial and legally-binding document that confirms Armenia’s occupation of a part of the territory of Azerbaijan,” Warlick responded: “The [Minsk Group] Co-Chairs are committed to working with the sides on a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.  The ECHR decision does not change that position, nor should it influence the sides’ readiness to work towards a settlement.”
