YEREVAN. – The Minister of Education and Science, Armen Ashotyan, on Friday had a working meeting with Japan’s newly appointed—and first resident—Ambassador to Armenia, Eiji Taguchi.

First, the minister congratulated the ambassador for commencing his diplomatic mission in Armenia. He expressed the hope that the diplomat’s activities will contribute to the development of Armenian-Japanese ties in education.

Next, the interlocutors discussed the avenues for bilateral cooperation and joint educational programs. In this connection, Ambassador Taguchi proposed the teaching of Japanese in the schools and institutions of higher education in Armenia.

Minister Ashotyan, for his part, presented the Armenian Education and Science Ministry’s track-record in founding foreign language training centers and advanced classes in high schools, which can also be applied in the case of Japanese. The minister, however, stressed that the Armenia expects Japan’s respective professional and methodological assistance.

In turn, Ambassador Taguchi noted that, at the first phase, Japan specifically highlights the implementation of joint projects in higher education.
