YEREVAN. – The President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, on Saturday received the heads of the delegations partaking in the meeting of the Council for Cultural Cooperation of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member countries, and the international conference devoted to the 70th anniversary of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Both events are held in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia.

The President stressed that nothing unites people as much as culture. He highlighted, however, that it is difficult and challenging times for the world, and therefore the aforementioned Yerevan discussions are very relevant and important on these matters, too.

Sargsyan wished the guests a productive work, and expressed a conviction that the document to be adopted as a result of these debates will reflect all the participants’ common aspiration in the cultural domain.

The participants in the meeting, for their part, thanked the President of Armenia for the opportunity for and assistance in holding such important events in his country.

Subsequently, President Serzh Sargsyan awarded Adelina von Fürstenberg-Herdringen (née Cüberyan)—a renowned Swiss Armenian international curator and one of the field’s pioneers in broadening contemporary art—with the 2nd Degree Order for Service to the Motherland, and in recognition of her significant contribution to worthily presenting the Armenian culture to the international community, and developing and strengthening Armenian-Swiss ties of friendship.
