YEREVAN. - Armenian children and teenagers with diabetes will receive drugs from the US Eli Lilly & Company during 2015 – 19, Armenia’s Minister of Healthcare Armen Muradyan said during a Government session today.

Unlike the previously provided drugs, the new ones will allow to avoid strokes of deep hypoglycemia and hospitalization, which couldn’t be prevented before.

According to the Minister, incidence rate of diabetes in Armenia has grown by 37 per cent in 2014 as compared with 2010. 31 per cent of the children with diabetes are from socially vulnerable families, while 5 per cent do not have one or both parents. Armenia implements no social programs funded by international donors for them. The program on struggle against diabetes also provides for the establishment of 4 centers in the republic, where the course and medical history of the disease will be analyzed.
