YEREVAN. – There was no invitation to meet with the President. But unlike some political forces, we have no hang-up about meeting with the President and present our views.

Chairperson of the opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), Naira Zohrabyan, told the aforementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Zohrabyan also noted that it is very hard for her to understand why the entire media are focused on the fact that the PAP has not yet expressed an official view regarding the draft constitutional amendments.

“When the PAP sees fit, it will express its position,” she added. 

In the party leader’s words, it is important for them whether or not the Specialized Committee on Constitutional Reforms will remove the provision of a two-phased parliamentary election system from the proposed constitutional amendments. 

“The Venice Commission will be in Armenia next week,” said Naira Zohrabyan. “We will try to meet with them ourselves, [and] present our concerns, views, and recommendations.”

Chapters 1 through 15 of the new draft Constitution of Armenia have been made public. Accordingly, the country will make a transition from a presidential to a parliamentary system of governance. The Venice Commission, however, recommends that the provision of a two-phased parliamentary election system in Armenia should be removed from this draft.
