YEREVAN. – The Iranian truck driver has been detained within the framework of the criminal case into the terrible road accident that occurred nearby Yeraskh village in the Ararat Province of Armenia.

Press Service of the Investigative Committee informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that the driver was detained on Tuesday, and pursuant to the Armenian Criminal Code article on violation of traffic and vehicle operation rules.

The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Emergency Situations of Armenia had received a report on August 13 at 8:25am. Accordingly, a traffic accident had occurred, with an outbreak of fire, in Yeraskh village.

A truck with Iranian license plates had collided with several cars on the Yeghegnadzor-Yerevan motorway.  As a result, some of the vehicles had burned down.

One person had died, whereas nine others were hospitalized.

The casualty in this road tragedy was Vahram Arzumanyan, the father of singer Vladimir Arzumanyan who represented Armenia at and won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2010.
