Police clashed with residents in the Azerbaijani city of Mingachevir on Saturday, a day after Bahruz Haciyev, 27, was found dead in a police station after being questioned by local police, reported Haqqin.az news agency of Azerbaijan.

Police used teargas and sound bombs to disperse the crowd.

Police also arrested several protesters.

The crowd calls for the punishment of those responsible for Haciyev’s death, reported RFE/RL Azerbaijani Service.

The victim’s relatives, on the other hand, beat an investigator of the municipal prosecutor’s office, informed Report.

Criminal proceedings are instituted into the death.

Bahruz Haciyev had died in a police station twenty minutes after being questioned there.

Police say the man jumped out of a window while being interrogated.

The victim’s relatives, however, believe that Haciyev was tortured to death, and in support of their argument, they point to the morgue photos of the young man.
