The struggle against illegal artesian wells in Ararat plain has yielded results, Minister of Nature Protection Aramayis Grigoryan told Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent.

The local population often voices about the desertification of Ararat plain. The alerts and dissatisfaction didn’t stop even after Minister Aramayis Grigoryan launched a struggle against the illegal artesian wells, the significant part of which, according to the media, allegedly belongs to the relatives of PM Hovik Abrahamyan.

To the question on whether they managed to close the lands especially belonging to the PM, Grigoryan said:

“The water consumers and fish-breeders appreciate that work and show that, yes, the work carried out by us served its purpose, but we’ll still have to work in the future since the pressure grows with the increase of water and hence we must carry out studies more often each year,” he said.
