Belarus stands ready to contribute to pushing Azerbaijan’s interests in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), said Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

The EEU member states are Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

“We greatly appreciate our friendship,” Lukashenko also noted at his talk with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev, who is in Belarus on an official visit.

The Belarusian president stressed that, considering the current global economic crisis, countries need to focus on new programs and directions for mutually beneficial cooperation, reported RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.

In this connection, he suggested to the Azerbaijani president to develop joint projects in several domains, and offered Belarus’ assistance in improving Azerbaijan’s public transport infrastructure.

“It would be desired to also consider the possibilities of cooperation in the domains of energy, petrochemicals, and agriculture,” Alexander Lukashenko specifically added.
