YEREVAN. – There are 2.1 million people in Armenia between the ages of 15 and 75, and 1 million of them are unemployed.

Head of the Department of Labor Statistics at the National Statistical Service, Lusine Kalantaryan, stated the above-said at a press conference on Monday.

According to the 2015 third quarter data, 63 percent of these people are either working or looking for work, Kalantaryan noted.

In the second quarter, the number of unemployed in the country decreased by 3.5 percent and reached 242 thousand. The expert added, however, that it has not yet been determined why this number has reduced.

According to the International Labour Organization methodology, those without a job but who are not looking for work are not included among the unemployed.

In the 2015 second quarter, unemployment in Armenia stood at 18.2 percent, or 0.7 points more than the second quarter of the year past.

But in the third quarter of the current year, employment in the country dropped by 2 percent because the summer seasonal work ended.
