YEREVAN. - President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan today received the Mayor of Armenia’s city of Gyumri Samvel Balasanyan. The issues on the development of the city were discussed at the meeting.

“According to the information of the Ministry of Urban Development, about 250 families in need of apartments have been left in Gyumri. I understand very well that much more people need apartments in Gyumri, but there are such people throughout entire Armenia, there are ten thousands of them. These tasks will definitely be resolved gradually,” Sargsyan said.

“Next spring we are launching the construction of Talin-Gyumri section of North-South motorway, in which we will invest 120 million Euro, and here it would be very proper to solve the issue on the improvement of streets and illumination pole in Gyumri,” he added.

According to Sargsyan, he has already given an instruction on allocating 23 million Euro, which must fully be spent on the improvement and illumination of Gyumri streets. “If the city administration and you openly promise to spend these means till the last dram on the improvement of the city, we can begin working starting from Monday. The work should start so that by the time we finish working on Yerevan-Gyumri motorway in 2018, the city is also improved,” the President said.
