YEREVAN. – Voting in the referendum on constitutional amendments in Armenia is underway in a normal course. 

Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Tigran Mukuchyan, stated the aforesaid on Sunday. 

He added that when holding the first meetings of the polling precincts and opening the precincts in the morning, there were proxies, observers, or media representatives in 85 to 90 percent of these precincts.

“In essence, the publicity toward this process is fully ensured,” Mukuchyan stressed

He noted that 1,997 election precincts have opened throughout the country, and eight of them are located in penitentiaries.

The referendum on Armenia’s constitutional amendments is conducted on Sunday.

Pursuant to the proposed amendments, the country will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance, and conduct completely proportional parliamentary elections.
