Germany is one of Armenia’s chief economic partners. Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian said the aforementioned during the meeting with the German FM Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin today.
The FMs expressed satisfaction with the high-level active political dialogue between the two countries, stressing that both Armenia and Germany are interested in the further development of bilateral cooperation.
FM Nalbanidan noted that the Armenian-German cooperation has recently gained new impetus in different areas. He also expressed conviction that through joint and consistent efforts, it is possible to further deepen and expand the relations between the two countries. The Armenian FM also thanked for Germany’s continuous support to the projects aimed at Armenia’s development.
Apart from this, the sides noted with satisfaction the presence of a strong legal framework including around forty agreements, development of cooperation in international organizations, high-level inter-parliamentary communication, activation of scientific educational and cultural cooperation, as well as expansion of business ties.
The interlocutors noted that Armenia and Germany successfully cooperate in the framework of peacekeeping operations, specifically in Afghanistan.
The FMs also referred to a number of international and regional issues, specifically implementation of agreements on Iran’s Nuclear Program, developments in Ukraine, situation in the Middle East, Syrian crisis and efforts of the international community aimed at fighting terrorism.
Nalbandian and Mr Frank-Walter Steinmeier also discussed the Armenian-EU relations. Importance was attached to the launch of talks on a new Armenia-EU framework agreement.
In the context of Germany’s OSCE Chairmanship, the FMs exchanged ideas concerning the issues on the agenda of the organization, results of Belgrade Ministerial Council and priorities of the German Chairmanship.
Nalbandian also briefed his German counterpart on the efforts of Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs aimed at the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh issue. Moreover, he invited the German FM to visit Armenia.
The same day, Edward Nalbandian had a meeting with Mr Christoph Heusgen, Foreign Policy and Security Chief Advisor to Chancellor Angela Merkel. The interlocutors discussed in great detail the Armenian – EU cooperation. At the meeting, ideas were exchanged on a number of urgent regional issues.
Nalbandian also had a meeting with the representatives of German-Armenian Forum led by Bundestag MP and Forum President Albert Weiler.
At the meeting, Mr Weiler briefed Nalbanidan on the work and program of the institution.
Armenian FM highly appreciated the activity of the forum, which is aimed at the further enhancement and expansion of Armenian-German friendly relations.
Ideas were exchanged on the Armenian-German relations, Armenia-EU cooperation, current international and regional issues, as well as efforts aimed at the peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflict.
