Sur district of Turkey’s primarily Kurdish-populated Diyarbakır Province is in utter ruins.

Nokta daily of Turkey has presented photos that were taken on the streets of Sur, once the curfew there was lifted temporarily.

To note, the Surp Giragos Church, which is the sole functioning Armenian church in eastern Turkey, is also located in the Sur district.

The curfew, which was reinstated 17 hours later, has been in place for over a week amid clashes between Turkish security forces and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
