YEREVAN. - Air passengers flying from Russia to Armenia must again get the opportunity to use the duty-free shops in Russian airports. First Deputy Minister of Economics Geregin Melkonyan said the aforementioned, introducing the bill on amendments to the law on VAT. According to the bill, the future duty-free shops on Armenia’s land borders shall be exempt from paying the VAT (currently, only the shops in the airport are exempt from it).

It is not the first time the issue has been raised at the meetings with Russian colleagues. According to the Russian side, the reason is the difficulties that may arise with regard to separate accounting of sales of passengers flying to Armenia, which is an EEU country, as well as countries outside the EEU. The issue concerns exactly the technical regulation and not the tax one, since the duties on goods are not collected between the EEU states.

According to the Russian colleagues, they can't run a separate accounting of sales. Nevertheless, the issue should be solved, and the solutions will be found, Melkonyan said.
