YEREVAN. - The presentation of the Armenian version of the book by the Lithuanian art historian, poet and diplomat Jurgis Baltrušaitis “Julfa on the Arax and its funerary monuments” took place at the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts “Matenadaran” today in Yerevan.  Editor of the book is Dickran Kouymjian.

The book by the Lithuanian author includes photos of monuments – khachkars (cross-stones) and cemeteries of the city of Julfa. Lithuanian Ambassador to Armenia Erikas Petrikas told Armenian News – NEWS.am that the day has come for his dream to come true. “I knew very little about this famous art historian Jurgis Baltrušaitis. I found out that he was even less known in Armenia. And I wished very much to organize this event since there are very few Lithuanians who have entered the Armenian history this way,” the Ambassador said.

According to him, it is important for the two nations, who have been together since the times of the Middle Ages and after the 1988 earthquake in Spitak, to be together even now.  “My dream is that the youth, especially the architecture and history students know about this man, who was actually the only foreigner who managed to find his way to that territory and make unique photos,” Erikas Pertrikas said.
