YEREVAN. – The deterioration of Russian-Turkish relations is having its direct economic impact on Armenia, too, Zhamanak daily reported.
“After the destruction of the Russian military plane by a Turkish plane, Russia imposed comprehensive sanctions on Turkey (…), and most importantly for us [i.e. Armenia], imposing a ban on the import of Turkish goods into Russia.
“Here at us they began to become happy that if the Turkish fruits and vegetables are not exported to Russia, the gap that came about would be bridged by the agricultural products of Armenia. But just the opposite happened.
“Turkish agricultural products have already flooded Armenia’s market. The Turkish cucumbers, tomatoes, [and] peppers are pushing local products out of the market.
“The fall in the prices of these goods in Turkey led to the fact that Armenia’s greenhouses have become outright uncompetitive with Turkish goods, in the domestic market,” Zhamanak wrote.
