YEREVAN. – The ongoing tension in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone is due to Azerbaijan’s attempts to dictate the talks’ agenda by way of increasing tension.

In his words, these attempts are aimed at the global players.

“If we observe Azerbaijan’s internal situation, [we would see that] the economic problems, due to the decline in oil prices, the political instability (…) are apparent,” Hovsepyan noted. “In doing so, Baku is trying to not only dictate agenda, but also to use the tension as a means of solving domestic political problems.”

The analyst added that Azerbaijan is also attempting to take advantage of the overall politico-military situation, in the context of Russian-Turkish relations.
