YEREVAN. – Azerbaijan has brought the situation to the degree that all of its weapons at the frontline are used up. 

Artsrun Hovhannisyan, the press secretary of the Minister of Defense of Armenia, stated the abovementioned at a press conference on Tuesday.

He recalled that ever since the beginning of the year, the adversary has used weapons—such as armored vehicles, reactive rocket propelled howitzers, and howitzer cannons—that have not been used since signing the ceasefire agreement back in 1994.

To a journalist’s comment that the Armenian side needs to respond with the same kind of weaponry, Hovhannisyan responded that the retaliation can be to a lesser extent, but more accurate.

In his words, the current situation should be assessed as military, and the occurring events are no longer ceasefire violations.

“The adversary includes armored vehicles not to kill [just] one or two soldiers, but to achieve more serious objectives,” Artsrun Hovhannisyan noted. “[And] by killing [just] one or two soldiers, however, it fails [its] greater objectives, and that’s why it increases the caliber [of its weapons].”

As for the greater number of Azerbaijani sabotage infiltration attempts in recent times, the Armenian defense minister’s press secretary said a respective analysis is conducted, but he did not disclose their results.

“You yourselves can also draw conclusions by basing on the information about the failed steps [by Azerbaijan],” he noted.

And to the query on an expected response by the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Artsrun Hovhannisyan stated that this matter is in the political dimension.
