YEREVAN. – At present, the water level of Lake Sevan is 1,900.20 meters—above sea level—, and an increase of 7 centimeters was recorded, as compared to the same period last year.

The Minister of Nature Protection of Armenia, Aramayis Grigoryan, stated the aforementioned at Wednesday’s year-end press conference. 

The minister recalled that in 2001, it was planned to raise Lake Sevan’s water level by 3.2 meters, within the given period.

“But today, our rise amounts to 3 meters [and] 89 centimeters; that is, we have already exceeded the planned level,” Grigoryan noted. “Construction of the Arpa-Sevan [water] tunnel somewhat complicates the water’s greater inflow into the lake. But I believe that once the construction of the tunnel is fully completed, we reach the 3.5cm mark very quickly.”

The minister added that the transparency of the Lake Sevan water has increased from 8 meters to 16 meters.
