YEREVAN. – The income of only ten percent of families in Armenia is higher than the consumer basket.

Sociologist Aharon Adibekyan stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Thursday. He noted that family incomes have remained the same in the current year. 

“Ten percent of the population of the republic continues to remain extremely poor,” Adibekyan said. “The volume of small businesses reduced during this year. Thirty percent of the families are taking loans; their 90 percent pays them back somehow.

“Thirty percent of Armenian families live thanks to pensions, and 80 percent believes that his condition has gotten worse, as compared to the past.” 

The sociologist added that before every third family, but now every tenth family in Armenia receives funding from abroad.

“The people [in Armenia] are in a sort of a pit,” Aharon Adibekyan noted. “The member of every fourth family of Armenia lives outside the family, abroad.”
