YEREVAN. – Some progress is observed throughout 2015, in terms of Armenia’s imports from Russia.

Chairman of the Republican Union of Employers of Armenia, economist Gagik Makaryan, stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Thursday.

In his words, the Eurasian Economic Union—which Armenia is a member in—will seek a liberal trade regimen.

“That is, they will promote mutual trade as much as possible between the Customs Union member countries,” Makaryan noted. “There is an assumption that certain quota regimens will be applied toward third countries. [But] Armenia has a problem on this matter, since the European Union [(EU)] countries occupy the largest area in the volume of import of our country.”

The economist added that, in this connection, it is very appropriate that Armenia is launching—within the framework of the EU—a program of promoting the assembling of products in the country.
