YEREVAN. – We have always supported the proposals aimed at reducing tension on the Karabakh-Azerbaijan Line of Contact, including the development and implementation of a mechanism to investigate ceasefire violations.

The Nagorno Karabakh Republic (NKR) Foreign Minister Karen Mirzoyan stated the aforementioned, as he reflected on Armenian News-NEWS.am’s query with respect to how the NKR regards the proposal to create such a mechanism.

“This will enable to reveal the real culprit of the escalation of tension, [and] put an end to all speculations,” Mirzoyan added.

To the remark that Azerbaijan announces that it is prepared to commence talks aimed at the development of a comprehensive peace agreement, and to the question on what the NKR position is regarding the activities toward the development of such an agreement, the NKR FM responded as follows:

“I assess this initiative of Azerbaijan as nothing but a diplomatic trick aimed at putting off, obstructing, and deadlocking the  negotiations.

“I would like to recall that until 1997, the negotiations were in progress around the development of a major political agreement between all three parties to the conflict—Armenia, NKR, and Azerbaijan. However, Azerbaijan itself obstructed this process, [and] which began pushing forward the need for the development of fundamental principles.”
