YEREVAN. - Armenia wants to attract production of diesel fuel from rubbish. Artashes Bakhshyan, Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Emergency Situations, told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent.

It is planned to attract an investor for the landfill designed for two Armenian provinces – Kotayk and Gegharkunik. The construction of the landfill will be launched in 2016 through the EBRD loan and grant means of the Neighborhood Investment Facility (NIF).

75,000 tonnes of rubbish is accumulated in the provinces annually. But it will be important for the investor to know what the rubbish is composed of. Research has been carried out, but more profound one is needed for the investors to rely on, Bakhshyan said.

Armenia already operates enough companies processing separate materials from the waste: plastic, paper, metal and glass. “But in the given case the issue concerns the processing of organic food waste, 30-40 percent of which is on average available in the landfills. It is possible to produce biogas, composted fertilizer and diesel fuel from it,” Bakhshyan said.

The Ministry is ready to provide the potential investor with all the necessary information on how much rubbish comes on the landfill according to the seasons.  “We will only have to know his tariff claim for rubbish reception,” the Deputy Minister said.

For the benefit of the future investor, the Ministry is holding meetings with the technology suppliers. One of them was held with the representatives of IVECO car corporation (truck manufacturer and one of the world leaders of diesel engines). “They have recently designed an engine specially for such diesel,” Bakhshyan said.
