YEREVAN. – Vice President of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Eduard Sharmazanov, on Monday received Kristian Vigenin, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA) Special Representative on the South Caucasus.

The NA informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that Sharmazanov presented the large-scale hostilities, which Azerbaijan had unleashed along its border with the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh) in early April. Also, he provided details of the Azerbaijani army atrocities against the Armenian soldiers and civilians, alike.

He noted that, unlike Azerbaijan, both Armenia and the NKR see the settlement of the Karabakh conflict solely through peace and negotiations. In this context, the Armenian parliament deputy speaker underscored the need for targeted assessments by the OSCE. Eduard Sharmazanov added that, during the negotiations, it is impossible to achieve a conflict settlement without the participation of Artsakh.

Vigenin, for his part, highly praised the Armenian MPs’ active cooperation at the OSCE PA. Reflecting on the Karabakh conflict, he considered it indispensable to exert greater efforts to establish regional peace, but without challenging the OSCE Minsk Group mandate to resolve this conflict. He informed that as a result of his visits to Armenia and Azerbaijan, he will prepare a report which he will submit at the OSCE PA annual session, which soon will be held in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi.
