German Deutsche Welle (DW) TV radio company has reflected on the five contentious topics that were discussed at the talk between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and which was held within the framework of the UN summit in Istanbul, Turkey.

The first contentious topic is the refugee issue between the European Union and Turkey.

The Turkish parliament bill on stripping the MPs of their immunity was also a controversial topic.

Another contentious topic was the severe restrictions on press freedom in Turkey.

Another controversial topic was German TV program host Jan Böhmermann’s satirical poem devoted to Erdoğan.

And finally, the Armenian Genocide resolution, which is put on the agenda of the German Bundestag (parliament) and where the term “genocide” is used for what befell the Armenians in 1915, was another contentious issue at the talk between the German chancellor and the Turkish president.
