Not a peace treaty, but measures for ensuring peace in the present-day situation will probably be discussed during the meeting of the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan, and which is slated for the end of June in Saint Petersburg, Russia, former US Ambassador to Armenia John Evans told the Voice of America Armenian service.

As per Evans, it is very hard to negotiate after what occurred on April 2 and the following days, at the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, and he understands very well why the Armenian party to the Karabakh conflict is shocked by what happened.

Nonetheless, according to the American diplomat, the forthcoming meeting between the two presidents gives hope.

John Evans stressed that the war in early April dealt a serious blow to the diplomatic efforts by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group co-chairs, and such a situation should be avoided in the future.

And reflecting on the prospects for the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, John Evans highlighted that the respective talks should focus on ensuring the safety of the people, and not so much on territories. As per the US diplomat, territories are not as important as the society, rule of law, and a good business climate.
