The leader of ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party in Mexico, Manlio Fabio Beltrones, leaves his office. He announced about his resignation at a meeting of the party's committee, reports TASS.

That decision was made in a number of circles after there had taken place governor’s and parliamentary elections, which brought a large defeat to the party. It was the first time in 86 years that the party's members defeated governors ' posts in Veracruz, Tamaulipas, Quintana, Roo, and Durangoy.

Announcing about his resignation Beltrones said that his party should deeply analyze and understand what had happened in the elections of June 5, realize the responsibility that falls on the residents of the districts, where they had won. At the elections of June 5 it was the National Unity Party that registered a victory in 7 districts out of 12.
