YEREVAN. – As a result of long talks conducted and special measures taken from late Sunday night to early Monday morning, one police officer and a civilian—an ambulance driver—were released from the capital city Yerevan police station, where they were held hostage.

The Republic of Armenia National Security Service (RA NSS) on Monday informed about the above-said in a statement.

“Nonetheless, the armed group refuses to release other forcibly detained persons, including senior police officials, and put down [their] weapons and surrender to authorities.

“The RA law enforcement agencies are taking all possible and available means to find a peaceful solution to the situation; but under the circumstances, this may not be enough,” the NSS statement also reads.

A group of armed men stormed into a police regiment, on early Sunday morning, and took several police officers hostage. One officer, deputy regiment commander Artur Vanoyan, was killed. In addition, four police officers and one of the people who participated in the attack were wounded.
