YEREVAN. - Extended format session took place in Armenia’s Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin Saturday. The session was presided by the Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II.

Referring to the situation in the capital, the participants came up with the following statement:

“The events taking place in Yerevan in recent days have upset the peace of our life. We are deeply upset by the fact that the tense situation yesterday evening resulted in new clashes, as a result of which dozens of people – protestors, policemen and journalists – suffered injuries. We consider unacceptable any unlawful step and action aimed at violence, which can cause bloodshed and imperil the future of our statehood.

With a concerned heart, but also with belief towards the sensibility of our people we urge not to yield to sensitiveness, avoid conflicts, and express a wish to take the path of a dialogue,” the statement reads, in part.

By the end of the meeting, it was decided to raise a special prayer in Armenian Apostolic Churches on Sunday for the homeland, peace of Armenian people, prosperity, as well as speedy recovery of the wounded.
