Last week the EU Council received an official notification from Switzerland about calling back the application the country submitted in 1992. The application refers to the membership in the organizations which formed the basis of the European Union , said a representative of the EU Council to the RIA Novosti.

EU- Switzerland relations, which are built on the basis of bilateral agreements , explained the source, will not be changed after submission of the official notification about the withdrawal . Switzerland has submitted an application for the EU membership in 1992 . However, in the same year the Swiss referendum voted against joining the European Economic Community and the integration process has stopped.
