Japan's Emperor Akihito will address the nation on Monday. The Imperial Household Agency stated that Akihito’s video address would be aired in the evening on August 8, Reuters reported.

Despite health problems, it is not expected that 82-year-old Emperor stated that he wants to abdicate, as, according to the Constitution, it is forbidden to make political statements. The representative of the Imperial Palace told the agency that Akihito would share his feelings concerning performance of his duties.

However, the Japanese mass media report that Akihito will hint about the desire to abdicate. According to the source, last month during conversation with advisers Akihito expressed an intention to pass the throne to his eldest son, Crown Prince Naruhito.

The agency noted that messages on possible abdication of the emperor became surprise for many in Japan, where the emperor abdicated nearly 200 years ago last time.
