YEREVAN. - Head of the Special Investigation Service of Armenia, Lieutenant-General of Justice Vahram Shahinyan on Tuesday received the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills, Resident Legal Advisor to the Embassy John Lulejian and U.S. Department of Justice legal expert Kristina Afoyan.

At the meeting, the sides discussed a wide scope of issues related to studying the international practice of cooperation organization, improvement of investigation methodology, as well as investigators’ trainings and a number of other issues of mutual interest.

The U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills inquired from the Head of the Special Investigation Service about the preliminary investigation of the criminal cases related to the violence which took place in the area of the seized police headquarters, as well as other places, hindrance of the lawful activity of journalists and attorneys, as well as the armed group.

Shahinyan stressed that complete, comprehensive and objective investigation is being carried out into the opened criminal cases.

For his part, Ambassador Mills noted that the thorough and professional investigation into the seizure of the Erebuni police station and police abuse against the Armenian citizens and journalists is satisfying. 

Apart from this, Shahinyan added that considering the public interest towards the aforementioned criminal cases, information on the investigative and legislative actions is regularly presented to the public.

Accompanied by Vahram Shahinyan, the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills, Resident Legal Advisor to the Embassy John Lulejian and U.S. Department of Justice legal expert Kristina Afoyan toured the Special Investigation Service building, getting familiarized with the working conditions.
