The project Nord Stream 2 is not profitable for Europe, announced the US Vice President Joe Biden on August 25 at a meeting with the Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, reports the Reuters. The US vice president evaluated the agreement of Gazprom with the EU energy companies (BASF / Wintershall, ENGIE, Uniper, OMV, Shell) as a "bad deal" for Europe. " No country should be able to use energy as a weapon… North Stream-2 is a bad deal for Europe , " said Joe Biden.

According to Biden, Europe needs to diversify its energy market. In addition, in his view, the project might destabilize Ukraine. Earlier, the State Secretary John Kerry spoke against the construction of the gas pipeline, which will increase the possibilities of exporting gas to Europe bypassing Ukraine. In May of 2016, Kerry expressed a confidence that Nord Stream 2  would negatively affect the Ukraine , Slovakia, and the Eastern Europe.
