The European Union along with the GIZ (German Society for International Cooperation) has launched a new program aimed at supporting the Armenian SME, which is part of the EU’s Support to SME development in Armenia program.

The representative of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ludovic Ciechanowski, told the aforementioned to reporters Tuesday.

According to him, this program will contribute to the development of innovation eco-system in Armenia and approach the innovations from the business standpoint.

In the framework of the program, two commissioners will arrive in Armenia this week to hold non-official ministerial meetings. One of the commissioners is the representative of the agency, which carries out research work in the European Commission and is responsible for Horizon 2020, the representative said.

In his words, the aim of the EU is to bring the research institute closer to business in Armenia. Ciechanowski also added that earlier it was mentioned that the research institutes in Armenia don’t cooperate with the business sector. Thus, the Support to SME development in Armenia program will contribute to the introduction of innovation in business.

The program is funded by the EU and implemented by GIZ Private Sector Development South Caucasus program.
