YEREVAN. – After joining the European Union’s (EU) Horizon 2020 Framework Programme—for research and innovation, great opportunities will be created for including Armenia’s scientific system in European institutions. 

Minister of Education and Science, Levon Mkrtchyan, on Thursday told about the aforesaid speaking with reporters.

“This [program] gives a great opportunity for small countries to fulfill their ambitions, [and] include our scientific system in European structures,” Mkrtchyan noted. 

EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, for his part, stated that it is indispensable to have skilled scientists, and make use of innovative scientific power. In his words, Horizon 2020 is designed to cooperate with non-EU countries.

EU Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Carlos Moedas, in turn, said the objective of Horizon 2020 is the EU system’s integration into the program-member countries, and the promotion of the competitiveness of these countries.

He added that individuals, universities, entrepreneurs, and people involved around the same ideas can apply for participation in the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme.
