EU transport ministers are expected to grant the European Commission (EC) the mandate to start negotiating a comprehensive air transport agreement with Armenia, Aviation Weekly reported.

The decision will be made during the next meeting of the Transport, Telecommunication and Energy Council that will be held from December 1 to 5.

In September the Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said Armenia expects that the talks on the agreement regarding Common Aviation Area will start this year.

Armenia requested the European Union to start negotiations on the establishment of a Common Aviation Area. If such an agreement is achieved, Armenia will not need to have separate negotiations with all 28 EU member states.
