Identity trumped rationality in the U.S., Director of the Institute of Media and Communications Policy, Leonard Novy, told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

Referring to the U.S. presidential elections and their results, he noted:  “Sure there is a lot of racism, bigotry, etc. among his voters. But for the most part, it was not so much the political proposals of Trump (which I suppose many of his voters don't believe he will implement 1:1 anyway), but him being a self-declared antipode to the "establishment". A break in a system that was seen as "corrupt" and dominated, economically and culturally by the liberal elites in the big cities on the East and West Coast. Many people wanted "change" - and he embodied it. Add to this a true establishment candidate- Hillary Clinton - with no clear message. And here we are. Bernie Sanders would have won this," he concluded.

Republican Party candidate Donald Trump, who is notorious for his extravagant statements and promises to normalize ties with Russia, won the 2016 U.S. presidential elections on November 8.
