YEREVAN. – The Veolia corporation of France is interested in building a plant in Armenia that processes garbage into biogas, Veolia regional vice president Malika Gendoura told Armenian News- NEWS.am.

Gendoura added that, during their visit to Armenia, the company representatives met with the country’s officials, and reaffirmed their commitment to get to work in this regard.

“We can do much more than simply collecting garbage,” Gendoura noted. “We can produce energy from waste, and we can contribute to the development of renewable energy and environmental protection in Armenia.”

The capital city Yerevan Municipality plans to announce a tender for the processing of the waste in the city dump.

In Gendoura’s words, Veolia already has started its preliminary feasibility study for this project, and it awaits the tender Yerevan Municipality plans to announce by the end of the year.

Since 2006, this French company is engaged in water supply in Yerevan. And in the fall of the current year, it won the tender, according to which it will carry out the entire water supply of Armenia for the next 15 years.
