UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has been upset about the failure of negotiations on Cyprus issue, the latest stage of which took place in Switzerland.

"Despite their best efforts, they have not been able to achieve the necessary further convergences on criteria for territorial adjustment that would have paved the way for the last phase of the talk," said UN spokesman Aleem Siddique.  The UN Secretary General expressed a hope that leaders will justify the hopes of their people and find a solution which would be acceptable for both communities.

The president of Cypriot Nicos Anastasiades and the leader of the Turkish Cypriots Mustafa Akinci negotiated on November 7-11 and 20-21 in Geneva through mediation of the UN spokesman Espen Barth Eide.
