In the framework of the ministerial conference of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) held in the capital of Madagascar, Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian on Saturday met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and African Integration of Nigeria, Ibrahim Yacoubou.

At the meeting, Nalbandian stressed that Armenia wants to expand the scope of cooperation with the countries of African continent. In this context, he underscored the importance of the opportunities provided by international organizations in terms of holding various meetings and reaching agreements on the development of ties, the press-service of the Armenian MFA reports.

The Nigerian FM, for his part, stressed that his country treats Armenia and Armenians warmly. FM Yacoubou also noted that he is happy to discuss issues related to establishing and developing cooperation with his Armenian counterpart.

Apart from this, the sides discussed formation of legal framework between the two states and opportunities for establishing cooperation in the framework of international organizations.

Ibrahim Yacoubou briefed FM Nalbandian on the situation emerged as a result of the actions of Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in the Western Africa region, a well as the measures taken against them.

By the end of the meeting, the FMs signed a protocol on the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
