Armenian Ambassador to Latvia, Tigran Mkrtchyan (residence in Vilnius), on Tuesday extended his credentials to President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis.

During the meeting following the credentials ceremony, issues related to the Armenian-Lithuanian ties and their further deepening were discussed, the press-service of the Armenian MFA informed Armenian News – NEWS.am.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan presented the programs planned to be implemented in the future.

President Vējonis, for his part, underscored the importance of activating the economic component of the bilateral relations, underscoring the importance of the Armenian-Lithuanian intergovernmental commission.

The interlocutors also referred to the talks on the new Armenian-EU framework agreement, expressing hope that it will be signed in the near future.

Apart from this, the Latvian President and the Armenian Ambassador exchanged opinions on a number of pressing regional and international issue. Referring to the Karabakh conflict, Ambassador Mkrtchyan expressed gartitude for Latvia's balanced stance in regard to the issue, underscoring the importance of the international community's support to the OSCE Minsk Group format.  

President Vējonis reconfirmed Latvia's stance to normalize the conflict through peaceful talks within the OSCE Minsk Group format.
