YEREVAN. – One of the objectives of the government of Armenia is to make exports reach 40 to 45 percent of the GDP.
Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan on Wednesday stated the aforesaid at the National Assembly, as he presented the 2017/22 program of the country’s government, the Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent reported from parliament.
According to the 2016 results, however, exports were slightly lower than 17 percent of the country’s GDP.
“The [respective] processes have been simplified for exporters, especially small; the exporting of seasonal fruit also has been made easy,” added Karapetyan. “Indicators of the first quarter of 2017 prove that we [Armenia] are on the right path; exports increased by 21 percent, and primarily on the account of processing industry.”
